Goelet Wines

A direct descendant of the Guestier wine merchant family of Bordeaux, John Goelet’s love of fine wine, in conjunction with his pioneering spirit, inspired a worldwide search for land on which to grow classic wine varieties. The journey, spanning three continents, led to the development of four wine estates in what are now considered the world’s premier wine regions.
In 2007, GWE was founded as a global alliance to coordinate the production, marketing, distribution and sales of the Goelet family’s wine brands.

John Goelet’s global search for world-class land for vineyard development commences.

Clos Du Val is established in the United States, in California’s famous Napa Valley, within the Stags Leap District.

Taltarni is purchased in Australia’s south-eastern state of Victoria, within the picturesque, uniquely Australian Pyrenees wine region.

Both sites are deemed comparable to the great vineyards of Bordeaux.

Clos Du Val’s vineyards are expanded to the cooler nearby Napa Valley region of Carneros, an area perfectly suited to Burgundy varieties.

Clover Hill is purchased in Australia’s stunning island state of Tasmania, a cool-climate region with a reputation for producing Australia’s premier sparkling wines.

A boutique sparkling house is developed to rival the great Champagne Houses of France.

Domaine De Nizas is purchased in the South of France, in the Languedoc region, on the outskirts of the village of Nizas, near Pézenas.

A hidden terroir treasure is discovered in an emerging region.

The GWE global fine wine alliance is established.

Fiercely Vindependent

Clos Du Val, French for ‘small vineyard estate of a small valley’, was founded 40 years ago on the vaunted principles of individuality, independence and expression, principles that guide the winery to this day.

Being vindependent means that Clos Du Val is proudly defiant of the passing trends and influences that have so often led others astray, remaining steadfast in the commitment to craft refined wines of elegance and balance, wines reflective not of winemaker “magic”, but rather as a fluent expression of the variety and terroir from which the wines are born.

A true Napa Valley icon, Clos Du Val wines have, since the winery’s founding, consistently been ranked among the best in the world. The 1972 Cabernet Sauvignon was selected as one of six Californian cabernets to be pitted against French Bordeaux in the now-famous Paris Wine Tasting of 1976, the “Judgement of Paris”. It won first place in the 10-year “rematch”, solidifying Clos Du Val’s place among the world’s most elite wineries. Clos Du Val wines have continued to garner critical acclaim vintage after vintage, including being named Winery of the Year an astounding seven times by Wine & Spirits Magazine.

Clos Du Val marches to the beat of its own drum. Clos Du Val makes wines for the wine lover, made to enjoy upon release, yet complex enough to age with strength and grace - wines you will fall in love with.

A Lifetime Of Key Moments

Taltarni is one of the founding wineries of Australia’s Pyrenees wine region in Victoria.

Described by wine writer Robert Joseph as “one of the most beautiful vineyards on the planet”, Taltarni’s rolling hills, sweeping vistas, bluffs and stands of gum trees create a magnificent setting for the production of outstanding wines.

Taltarni combines old-world traditions with new-world techniques to produce a diverse range of French-inspired still wines and méthode traditionnelle-crafted sparklings, including Taltarni Taché, Australia’s most popular sparkling rosé.

The diversity of Taltarni’s portfolio ensures that there’s a perfect Taltarni wine to celebrate all key moments in life.

Cool-climate Tasmania is renowned for producing Australia’s finest sparklings - wines with elegance, finesse and depth.
Clover Hill is a boutique Tasmanian sparkling house. It is dedicated to the production of méthode-traditionnelle sparkling wines,
exclusively growing chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot meunier.

Clover Hill’s award-winning wines have garnered critical acclaim since the winery’s inception in 1986, winning the hearts of even the
most royal among us. Clover Hill was selected as one of only four iconic Australian wines to be served to Her Majesty The Queen and
His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh during their most recent Australian visit. Prior to that, it was the tipple of choice at Princess
Mary’s and Prince Frederik’s wedding celebrations.

Clover Hill was awarded the inaugural Tasmanian Vineyard of the Year and, since then, has continued to collect gold trophies and
awards from some of Australia’s most prestigious wine shows and competitions.
